Fiji Appoints New Ambassador to UAE: A Diplomatic Leap Forward

Siddiq Faizal Riyad Koya has been officially appointed as Fiji’s Ambassador Designate to the United Arab Emirates. The commissioning ceremony was presided over by the President of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who congratulated Koya on his new role and offered his best wishes for success in this diplomatic position.

This appointment is expected to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Fiji and the UAE, enabling both nations to maximize potential opportunities. Ambassador Koya expressed gratitude to the Fijian government for its trust in his capabilities for this important position.

Before his appointment, Koya was a barrister and solicitor and served as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Biosecurity Fiji. He holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honors and a Diploma in Higher Education in Law from the University of Wolverhampton in the UK, earned in 1993, along with a Certificate in Legal Practice from the University of Tasmania in 1995.

Koya was admitted to the High Court of Fiji in 1999, where he has presided over various cases, including criminal trials, civil trials, domestic violence issues, and family law matters, including adoption cases.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lenora Qereqeretabua, and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala.
