Etuweni Caucau has been appointed as Fiji’s new Ambassador to Malaysia, as confirmed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in a media briefing on Tuesday. The Prime Minister mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently awaiting the necessary documentation and approval from the Malaysian government.

Caucau, a former member of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), was selected for this position following a thorough vetting process conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His military career began after he graduated from Officer Cadet School at Portsea on December 14, 1984. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and served as a Platoon Commander with the Fiji Infantry Regiment Depot located in Suva.

After a commendable career in the RFMF, where he retired in 2007 as a Lieutenant Colonel, Caucau took on the role of Manager of Human Resources at the Pacific Fishing Company Limited, which is the largest fishery operation in Fiji. He held that position for seven years until May 2014. Following his departure from the corporate sector, he became a full-time administrator at the Christian Mission Fellowship International World Harvest Centre in Kinoya, Fiji, considered one of the largest churches in the Pacific region.

This appointment reflects a significant step for Fijian diplomacy, and Caucau’s diverse background in military, human resources, and community leadership could provide valuable insights and connections in his new role. With the focus on enhancing bilateral relations with Malaysia, there is potential for positive developments in trade, cultural exchange, and cooperation in various sectors.

In summary, this appointment not only showcases Caucau’s impressive career but also heralds a new chapter in strengthening Fiji’s international presence.
