Fiji Appoints New Ambassador to Japan: Who is Parmesh Chand?

Luke Rokovada, the chairman of the Public Service Commission, has announced the appointment of Parmesh Chand as Fiji’s new Ambassador to Japan. Currently serving as the permanent secretary for the Civil Service, Mr. Chand will succeed Filimoni Waqabaca, who is set to return to Fiji to lead the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) as its chief executive officer starting January 15.

While Mr. Chand’s appointment is confirmed, Mr. Rokovada mentioned that the specific date for him to begin his duties in Japan has yet to be established.

This transition in ambassadorial roles reflects a commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations between Fiji and Japan. It also illustrates the government’s ongoing efforts to place experienced individuals in key international positions, which is promising for Fiji’s representation abroad.
