Jesoni Vitusagavulu has officially taken on the responsibilities of Fiji’s inaugural resident ambassador to Israel after presenting his credentials to Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Tuesday. This significant appointment was made public just last month and marks a notable achievement in Fiji-Israel relations.
Vitusagavulu, a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience, including his previous role as an ambassador to the United States, brings a wealth of knowledge and a diverse professional background to this new position. His discussions with President Herzog focused on various critical regional and international security issues, notably the proposed International Stabilization Force. This multinational initiative aims to operate in the Gaza Strip to safeguard civilians and promote humanitarian aid.
Should the force be established, Fiji is poised to consider contributing troops, reflecting the nation’s commitment to international peacekeeping. Fiji has a rich history of participating in United Nations peacekeeping missions, having previously deployed personnel to vital operations such as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, the Multinational Force and Observers, and the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force.
Vitusagavulu’s new role signifies an expansion of Fiji’s diplomatic engagement and support for global stability, showcasing the country’s readiness to take an active part in addressing complex challenges on the international stage.
