The Fijian government is committed to enhancing the country’s health system through reforms focused on evidence-based practices and community-centered care. During the opening of the new session of Parliament, President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu emphasized that these reforms will prioritize prevention and primary health care, particularly targeting rural, maritime, and vulnerable populations.

The President pointed out that outcomes from the recent Health Transformation Summit will steer a fresh strategic direction for the health sector. He stated, “Government will continue to strengthen the health system through reforms that are people-centered and evidence-based. These efforts will be guided by a strong emphasis on prevention, primary health care systems, efficiency, and equity, particularly for the interior, rural, maritime, and vulnerable communities.”

Moreover, President Lalabalavu mentioned that legislative reforms are crucial to ensuring that health laws remain relevant and responsive to emerging challenges. The ultimate goal, he asserted, is to translate these reforms into accessible, quality health services that promote healthier lives for all Fijians.

This strategic focus on improving health services reflects a proactive approach by the Fijian government, aiming not only to address current health challenges but also to lay a foundation for a more resilient health system in the future. The commitment to equitable healthcare for all citizens is a positive step towards building a stronger, healthier nation.
