Fiji and Tuvalu Prime Ministers Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka welcomed a courtesy visit from Tuvalu’s Prime Minister, Feleti Teo. This marked their first meeting since Prime Minister Teo’s appointment earlier this year. During the discussions, Rabuka reiterated Fiji’s support for Tuvalu’s interest in establishing a community facility in Fiji to serve the growing Tuvaluan diaspora.

Both leaders acknowledged the deep historical connections between their nations. Prime Minister Teo highlighted the contributions of the Fijian diaspora in Tuvalu, particularly in fields such as education, healthcare, and other sectors where Fijians work as teachers, nurses, and doctors.

The leaders also discussed the strengthening bilateral relations and identified key areas for cooperation, including education, health, agriculture, climate resilience, and connectivity. They committed to enhancing their relationship through a potential framework agreement that would cover all these areas of cooperation.

Prime Minister Teo’s visit to Fiji underscores their shared commitment to boosting collaboration in light of current and future challenges.
