Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka of Fiji has expressed support for Tonga’s intention to establish a full-fledged diplomatic mission in Fiji. This announcement came during a bilateral meeting with Tongan Prime Minister Dr. ‘Aisake Valu Eke, which marked their first formal engagement. The meeting took place at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort, coinciding with the TROIKA Leaders’ gathering.

During their discussions, the two leaders emphasized the need to enhance bilateral cooperation and regional collaboration in several key areas. Topics such as trade and investment, defense and security, climate resilience, and fostering cultural exchanges were important points of conversation. Rabuka warmly welcomed Prime Minister Eke and his delegation, reaffirming Fiji’s commitment to strengthening ties with Tonga.

Additionally, both leaders shared their vision for a Development Cooperation Agreement (DCA), aimed at aligning their strategic engagements to better address the priorities of both nations. They also advocated for the “Ocean of Peace” concept, promoting unity and solidarity across the Pacific region.

This meeting reflects a pivotal step towards deepening the relationship between Fiji and Tonga. It showcases a mutual commitment to addressing shared challenges, such as climate change and regional security, while fostering a sustainable and resilient future for the Pacific states.
