Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka expressed his gratitude to Jim Jin Hyung, the outgoing South Korean Ambassador, for significantly enhancing the bilateral relationship between Fiji and South Korea. In a meeting held in Suva, Rabuka acknowledged the Republic of Korea’s crucial contributions, which have surpassed $160 million in various developmental projects throughout Fiji.
During his tenure, Ambassador Jin Hyung Kim was instrumental in implementing important initiatives, including the National Rehabilitation Centre for Health in Tamavua, solar energy projects in Taveuni, and the Fiji Agro-photovoltaic project in Ovalau. The Prime Minister noted that these developments align with South Korea’s strategic vision for sustainable and healthy island environments, as promoted by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Additionally, Rabuka highlighted the historical connection between Fijian servicemen and Korea, citing their representation in the Korean War, which is memorialized in South Korea’s Roll of Honour. Ambassador Kim expressed his sincere appreciation for the partnership and reflected on his time in Fiji as both meaningful and honorable.
