Telecom Fiji Ltd and Solomon Telekom have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at reinforcing technical cooperation and facilitating skills development within the telecommunications sector. This strategic partnership emphasizes the importance of enhancing telecommunications capacity across the Pacific region.
As part of this collaboration, engineers and technical personnel from Solomon Telekom will receive specialized training at Telecom Fiji. The training will cover vital areas, including fibre network planning, system design and operation, as well as internet and broadband development, and network optimization. Telecom Fiji’s CEO, Charles Goundar, indicated that the program is designed to deliver hands-on training leveraging their extensive experience in optical fibre technology. This includes everything from network planning to the daily operations of such systems.
Participants will benefit from a mix of practical sessions, field visits, and technical workshops conducted by Telecom Fiji’s engineering and operations teams, providing them with real-world exposure and experience. Goundar remarked that this MOU is a significant step towards fostering stronger regional partnerships. “By sharing technical knowledge and expertise, we are helping to strengthen telecommunications capacity across the Pacific,” he said, emphasizing the mutual commitment to enhancing services for Pacific communities.
The MOU, signed by Goundar and Solomon Telekom’s CEO Christina Lasaqa last month, signifies the two companies’ dedication to regional collaboration and knowledge sharing. Such initiatives are essential for ensuring that telecommunications services can meet the demands of growing communities and are expected to lead to improved connectivity across the region.
In a broader context of regional cooperation, this partnership aligns with various efforts aimed at improving digital infrastructure and telecommunications capabilities throughout the Pacific. The focus on skills and knowledge transfer is vital for creating a more interconnected and technologically advanced region, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic growth of the Pacific Islands.
