Fiji is gearing up for a significant four-day trade and investment mission to Papua New Guinea (PNG), set to take place from March 24 to March 27, 2025. This initiative aims to leverage 20 identified investment and trade opportunities with a combined value exceeding $100 million, focusing on critical sectors such as agriculture, tourism, information communication technology (ICT), and manufacturing.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, underscored the mission’s importance as an avenue for Fiji to tap into the expanding PNG market. The establishment of Fiji’s High Commission in PNG and the revitalization of the Fiji-PNG Business Council reflect a strengthened commitment to enhancing economic connections between the two nations.

The delegation will include government officials, business leaders, and private sector representatives, who are expected to engage in business forums, networking events, and meetings aimed at creating new partnerships. Investment Fiji’s Chief Executive Officer, Kamal Chetty, highlighted that this mission is set to boost Fiji’s profile in PNG by showcasing its attractive investment environment, plentiful business prospects, and appealing tourism offerings.

This mission is not just a strategic effort to initiate new business opportunities but also serves as a pathway to deepen collaboration between Fiji and PNG. By encouraging consistent exchanges and discussions about economic initiatives, both countries hope to establish enduring partnerships that can foster economic growth and prosperity.

This initiative comes in response to concerns from PNG officials regarding the existing trade imbalance between the two nations. The revitalization of the Fiji-PNG Business Council is viewed as a crucial step towards addressing these issues and improving trade dynamics for mutual benefit.

There is a strong sense of optimism surrounding this mission, as it is anticipated to result in successful partnerships and contribute to economic resilience in the region. This collaboration could pave the way for sustainable development for both Fiji and PNG, driving mutual progress in the years ahead.
