Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka recently participated in a lively celebration of South Korea’s National Day, held aboard the ROKS Hansando at Suva Wharf on Thursday evening.
The event, which was organized by the Korean Embassy in Fiji, highlighted the strong and enduring friendship between Fiji and South Korea, a relationship that has flourished since its establishment in 1971. The ROKS Hansando, a Korean naval helicopter training vessel with a crew of 290, is currently on a 110-day journey, visiting eight countries including Fiji for the eighth time. This visit underscores the ongoing defense and maritime cooperation between the two nations.
Korean Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Jin-Hyung Kim, spoke about the bolstered bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in trade, culture, tourism, defense, and security. He expressed gratitude to the attendees for joining the celebration of Korea’s National Day away from their homeland.
The ship’s deck was beautifully transformed into a festive setting, adorned with Korean flags and traditional decorations, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a variety of Korean cuisine, beverages, and cultural performances that highlighted the rich heritage and accomplishments of Korea.
The evening ended on a celebratory note with a ceremonial toast led by Prime Minister Rabuka and Ambassador Jin-Hyung, honoring the strong partnership between Fiji and South Korea.
Overall, this celebration not only strengthens diplomatic ties but also fosters a deeper cultural understanding and community between the two nations, promising a positive outlook for future cooperation.
