Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka participated in a lively celebration of the Republic of Korea’s National Day on Thursday night aboard the ROKS Hansando, which was docked at Suva Wharf.
The event, hosted by the Korean Embassy in Fiji, highlighted the strong diplomatic ties and friendship that have existed between Fiji and Korea since 1971. The ROKS Hansando, a Korean naval helicopter training ship with a crew of 290, is currently on a 110-day voyage that includes stops at eight countries and ten ports. This visit marks the ship’s eighth arrival in Fiji, demonstrating the ongoing defense and maritime collaboration between the two nations.
Korean Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Jin-Hyung Kim, praised the enhanced bilateral relations in areas such as trade, culture, tourism, defense, and security. In his remarks to the gathered diplomats and dignitaries, he expressed his appreciation for their attendance at the National Day celebration, which took place far from Korea.
The deck of the ship was beautifully decorated with Korean flags, traditional ornaments, and festive lights, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed a selection of Korean cuisine, beverages, and cultural performances that highlighted the rich heritage and achievements of Korea.
The evening’s festivities culminated in a ceremonial toast led by Prime Minister Rabuka and Ambassador Jin-Hyung, celebrating the enduring partnership between Fiji and Korea.
This event serves as a refreshing reminder of the importance of international friendships and cultural exchanges, offering hope for further collaboration and understanding between nations. Such gatherings not only enhance diplomatic relations but also foster community and goodwill among diverse cultures.
