Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka participated in a lively celebration of South Korea’s National Day aboard the ROKS Hansando, which was docked at Suva Wharf on Thursday night.
This significant event, organized by the Korean Embassy in Fiji, highlighted the strong diplomatic ties and friendship that have existed between Fiji and Korea since 1971.
The ROKS Hansando, a Korean naval helicopter training ship with a 290-member crew, is currently on a 110-day journey that includes stops in eight countries and ten ports. This occasion marks the ship’s eighth visit to Fiji, showcasing the nations’ ongoing cooperation in defense and maritime affairs.
Ambassador of Korea to Fiji, His Excellency Jin-Hyung Kim, addressed the audience, emphasizing the enhanced bilateral relations in various sectors, including trade, culture, tourism, defense, and security. He conveyed his appreciation for the attendees who came together to celebrate Korea’s National Day far from its homeland.
The ship’s deck was beautifully decorated with Korean flags, traditional ornaments, and lights, creating a festive atmosphere. Guests were treated to a variety of Korean cuisine, beverages, and cultural performances that highlighted Korea’s rich heritage and accomplishments.
The event culminated with a ceremonial toast led by Prime Minister Rabuka and Ambassador Jin-Hyung, symbolizing the enduring partnership between Fiji and Korea.
This celebration not only honors Korea’s National Day but also reaffirms the commitment of both nations to nurture their friendship and enhance cooperation in various fields.
