Fiji’s President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, welcomed Israel’s non-resident Ambassador Roi Rosenbilt for a courtesy visit at State House on March 10, 2025. This two-day visit was focused on enhancing diplomatic relations between the two nations, which have enjoyed formal ties since 1970.
During their discussions, President Ratu Naiqama expressed Fiji’s gratitude for Israel’s ongoing support and highlighted the significant advancements made in various sectors, particularly in technology related to water management, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture. The partnership has recently expanded to address pressing issues such as climate change adaptation, which is vital for Pacific nations like Fiji.
A notable topic of conversation was Fiji’s decision to establish an embassy in Jerusalem, a move that Ratu Naiqama described as a new chapter in Fiji-Israel relations. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s prior commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties, which was discussed during his previous meetings with Israeli officials, including Foreign Affairs Minister Sa’ar Gideon Moshe. This decision emphasizes Fiji’s intention to enhance its international presence and collaboration.
The meeting also focused on knowledge-sharing opportunities and technical support to assist Fiji in achieving its national development goals. As both nations work to address mutual challenges, the dialogue reflects a hopeful willingness for cooperation aiming towards stability and security both regionally and globally.
This diplomatic engagement not only signifies a strengthening of Fiji-Israel relations but also showcases Fiji’s proactive approach in building partnerships that could ensure progress in tackling critical issues such as climate change and security.
