Fiji and Denmark Forge Stronger Diplomatic Ties: What’s Next?

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sitiveni Rabuka met with the newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador of Denmark, Ingrid Dahl-Madsen, in a courtesy call that took place yesterday. During the meeting, Rabuka expressed his congratulations to Ambassador Dahl-Madsen on her new appointment and emphasized Fiji’s commitment to enhancing its diplomatic relations with Denmark.

The Prime Minister reflected on the evolution of Fiji-Denmark relations, highlighting the significance of Queen Mary’s historic visit to Fiji in 2023 as a pivotal moment that has helped secure a stronger bilateral relationship. Rabuka noted that this visit has established a foundation for increased collaboration, particularly through joint initiatives with the European Union focusing on vital global issues such as climate change, trade, agriculture, governance, peace and security, human rights, and UN peacekeeping.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of further strengthening diplomatic ties and welcomed the prospect of more extensive cooperation in shared areas of interest. Fiji and Denmark have maintained diplomatic relations for 26 years, marking a long-standing partnership that is poised for further expansion.

This meeting reflects a positive outlook for the future of Fiji-Denmark relations, indicating that both nations are keen to work together on critical global challenges.
