An agreement has been signed between Tourism Fiji and the Chongqing Municipal Commission for Culture and Tourism Development to enhance cooperation in destination marketing. The signing took place this week in Chongqing, China, where both parties expressed their commitment to deepening collaboration in several crucial areas.
According to a statement from Tourism Fiji, the agreement focuses on improving the exchange of tourism-related information, statistics, and market research. Additionally, it aims to bolster joint promotional efforts and support each other’s participation in various tourism festivals and events. A significant aspect of the partnership is the development of travel itineraries designed to promote Fiji within the Chongqing market.
Tourism Fiji board director Josaia Rayawa and Zhu Mao, the deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission for Culture and Tourism Development, were present at the signing. Rayawa emphasized Chongqing’s critical role as a prominent central city and consumer market in China, with a population exceeding 32 million residents. This metropolitan area presents substantial potential for premium tourism development, aligning perfectly with Fiji’s goal to attract high-value, experience-driven travelers.
During the main conference forum, Mr. Rayawa highlighted Fiji’s diverse tourism resources and its brand promise: “Where Happiness Comes Naturally.” He expressed honor in representing Fiji in this landmark agreement, confident that leveraging Fiji’s unique cultural and natural assets alongside Chongqing’s potential as a source market will significantly enhance tourism cooperation.
Tourism Fiji’s CEO, Dr. Paresh Pant, described the agreement as a strategic move to deepen Fiji’s engagement with the Chinese market. He articulated that Chongqing’s development into a sophisticated source market aligns seamlessly with Fiji’s vision for experience-led tourism.
This agreement comes at a promising time, especially as discussions around establishing direct flights between Fiji and China gain momentum. Recent reports indicate that such flights could significantly enhance the flow of Chinese tourists to Fiji, which has historically faced challenges due to a lack of direct connectivity.
The optimism surrounding both the partnership and potential direct flights highlights a therapeutic outlook for Fiji’s tourism sector, suggesting a fruitful collaboration that could rejuvenate travel and economic ties between Fiji and China.
