Last month, new bird stamps were unveiled in celebration of the national day for Fiji and the People’s Republic of China. This event was co-organized by several entities, including the China Academy of Art and the Fiji-China Friendship Association.
The bird stamps are a joint effort between the Chinese Cultural Centre and Post Fiji, with support from the Chinese Embassy. Stamp designer Guo Zhiyi explained that the stamps symbolize the friendship between Fiji and China.
Guo stated, “It is to reflect the friendship between China and Fiji through imagery of birds in their natural habitats.” He emphasized that this symbolism highlights the importance of ecosystems and their protection.
Additionally, Guo mentioned that the stamps emphasize both nations’ commitment to sustainable development, particularly in environmental conservation and safeguarding natural habitats.
Post Fiji’s CEO, Isaac Mow, noted that these new stamps are part of a broader initiative, with many other stamps developed in collaboration with the Chinese Cultural Centre. “We have launched many other stamps similar to this one in the past, and I would say that it’s a great way to promote the friendship between our two countries,” Mow said.
He added that stamps are an effective means to showcase Fiji to the world, particularly in the area of tourism.
