Fiji is set to benefit from a collaborative effort with China as a team of experts prepares to visit the country to assist in developing a comprehensive poverty reduction plan. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, SMEs, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, stated that the partnership will provide valuable insights aimed at enhancing the well-being of Fijian citizens.
Kamikamica emphasized that this collaboration opens up opportunities for Fiji to learn from China’s successful strategies in development, technology, and poverty alleviation. He mentioned that aligning these strategies to export opportunities could be crucial in lifting many out of poverty, citing China’s effective creation of economic opportunities over the years.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, reiterated China’s commitment to support Fiji through this initiative. He explained that the forthcoming team of experts will conduct a field study in Rewa province, leading to the formulation of a tailored poverty reduction plan. Jian highlighted the importance of international partnerships in addressing global challenges and shared success stories that exemplify how collective efforts can yield meaningful results for communities.
This development follows Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s earlier statements regarding valuable insights that Fiji can gain from China’s innovative poverty alleviation strategies, particularly observed during his visit to the Ningde Poverty Alleviation and Development Exhibition Hall. Rabuka praised China’s efforts over the past three decades, which have notably improved living standards in rural areas.
In addition to strategic collaborations, Fiji is also focusing on enhancing its agricultural sector to promote food security and improve livelihoods. By encouraging citizens to utilize available land effectively, agriculture is seen as a pivotal element in the overall strategy for poverty alleviation in Fiji.
This hopeful initiative reflects a commitment to overcoming socio-economic challenges through the shared expertise and resources of both countries. The journey toward alleviating poverty and enhancing the quality of life for all Fijians is one step closer through this cooperation with China.
