The Fiji Police Force (FPF) has recently formalized a new agreement with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) aimed at fortifying cooperation and collaboration in law enforcement within the Pacific region. This agreement includes the deployment of AFP strategic advisers who will integrate with the FPF to enhance various capabilities such as intelligence gathering, human resources, and strategic operational planning.
AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw emphasized that this agreement marks a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between Fiji and Australia. He noted that AFP personnel have been stationed in Fiji as liaison officers and advisors for over two decades. Kershaw expressed pride in maintaining this mutually supportive relationship, highlighting the shared goal of ensuring security in the Pacific.
Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu of the FPF characterized the signing of this agreement as “heralding a new dawn,” reinforcing the idea that the long-standing partnership is built on mutual respect and a collective understanding of the strength that comes from collaborative efforts against transnational crime.
An integral part of the agreement is the establishment of a Regional Centre of Excellence in operational field forensics in Fiji.
