Fiji’s Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development, Esrom Immanuel, recently engaged with high-ranking officials from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to underscore the enduring partnership between Fiji and the regional development institution. The meeting took place at Ro Lalabalavu House in Suva, with ADB Regional Director Azusa Sato and Director General for the Pacific Department Emma Veve in attendance.

During the meeting, Minister Immanuel congratulated Sato on her new position, emphasizing ADB’s critical role as one of Fiji’s foremost strategic development partners. He expressed gratitude for the bank’s consistent support in crucial areas such as infrastructure development, climate resilience, and budgetary assistance.

Minister Immanuel also recognized ADB’s swift response during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting its significant impact in aiding Fiji throughout this challenging economic period. Discussions further delved into ongoing joint budget support programs with the World Bank, the government’s fiscal consolidation initiatives, and prospects for enhancing private sector-led growth and regional collaboration within the Pacific.

Both Fiji and ADB reiterated their dedication to foster ongoing cooperation, aiming to support Fiji’s development goals and bolster economic resilience. This continued partnership is poised to play a vital role in enhancing the nation’s sustainable growth and recovery efforts in the coming years.
