Fiji Airways has welcomed a new addition to its fleet with the acquisition of an ATR72-600 series aircraft. The plane was officially handed over in Toulouse, France, and was documented in photographs celebrating this milestone.
The delivery was facilitated by Airplane Xperts, a French company that expressed gratitude on their LinkedIn page, stating, “Vinaka Vakalevu to our friends at Fiji Airways for the successful delivery of an ATR 72-600, MSN 1707, on Christmas Eve here in Toulouse.” The aircraft is set to embark on its journey to Fiji, with an expected arrival next week. Airplane Xperts also acknowledged the ATR team for their support during production and their efforts to ensure the timely delivery.
In a strategic move to enhance its fleet, Fiji Airways signed a lease agreement in August 2024 for three additional ATR72-600 aircraft from Nordic Aviation Capital. Currently, Fiji Airways operates two of these turboprop planes through its domestic subsidiary, Fiji Link. These aircraft serve vital routes not only within Fiji but also to international destinations including Port Vila in Vanuatu, Funafuti in Tuvalu, and several locations in Tonga.
This acquisition represents a positive development for Fiji Airways, highlighting its commitment to expanding and modernizing its fleet to better serve both domestic and regional needs. The introduction of more ATR72-600s is expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve travel experiences for passengers.
Summary: Fiji Airways has acquired a new ATR72-600 aircraft in Toulouse, France, facilitated by Airplane Xperts. This addition comes as part of a larger strategy to enhance the airline’s fleet, including a recent lease for three more ATR72-600s. With plans to operate these planes domestically and internationally, Fiji Airways underscores its commitment to improving regional connectivity.
