Fiji Airways announced a revenue of $99 million from cargo services in 2023, with a notable highlight being the export of turmeric to North America, which reached 100 tonnes weekly. This information was included in the airline’s 2023 annual report presented in Parliament last Friday.
Despite this significant contribution, the company’s cargo revenue experienced a 24 percent decline, attributed to decreased yields amid intensified competition as airlines resumed international flights after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The report indicated that Fiji Airways transported over 29,000 tonnes of cargo to and from Fiji. The airline emphasized the importance of its cargo operations in supporting the economy, stating that it provides essential freight services that facilitate trade and support local businesses.
Fiji Airways also noted that it manages shipments originating from various regions, including Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North America, and the Pacific Islands, highlighting its role in promoting economic growth and contributing positively to the Fijian economy.
