Fiji Airways announced that its cargo revenue reached $99 million in 2023, with turmeric exports to North America emerging as its biggest agricultural export, averaging 100 tonnes per week. This information was disclosed in the airline’s 2023 annual report presented in Parliament on Friday. However, the company experienced a 24 percent decline in cargo revenue, attributed to lower yields amid increased competition as airlines resumed international flights following the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the report, Fiji Airways transported over 29,000 tonnes of cargo to and from Fiji. The company emphasized the importance of its cargo operations in supporting the nation’s economy, stating that it provides essential freight services for various regions including Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North America, and the Pacific Islands. Fiji Airways highlighted that by facilitating trade and commerce, its cargo services play a crucial role in supporting local businesses, fostering economic growth, and making a significant contribution to the Fijian economy.
