Fiji Airways has resumed its commercial passenger services to Port Vila, Vanuatu. The inaugural flight, FJ2265, utilized a Boeing 737 Max8, departing from Nadi at 11:59 AM and landing in Port Vila at 1:04 PM, right after the airport reopened for commercial operations at 1 PM.
This flight carried 98 passengers, including a relief team from the Fiji Government, returning Vanuatu citizens and residents, as well as aid workers. Additionally, it transported a shipment of assistance goods. A ground team from Fiji Airways was also on board to service the aircraft and prepare it for its return journey.
FJ2265 marked the first commercial flight to land in Port Vila following the airport’s reopening. Subsequently, the return flight, FJ2264, became the first officially scheduled departure, carrying returning Fijian nationals and other travelers affected by the recent airport closure due to the earthquake on December 17.
Fiji Airways plans to resume its regular flight schedule with services FJ263/262 later today, operating within the airport’s updated operating hours of 1 PM to 6 PM. Additional flights are scheduled for tomorrow, indicating a positive step towards restoring normal air travel in the region.
