Fiji Airways has successfully resumed its commercial passenger services to Port Vila, Vanuatu. The airline’s supplementary flight FJ2265, utilizing a Boeing 737 Max8, took off from Nadi at 11:59 AM and landed in Port Vila at 1:04 PM, just four minutes after the airport reopened for commercial operations.
Onboard the aircraft were 98 passengers, including a team from the Fiji Government’s relief effort, returning Vanuatu nationals, local residents, and aid workers. The flight also carried essential goods to support the relief efforts. A ground crew from Fiji Airways was onboard to service the aircraft in Port Vila and prepare for the return flight.
FJ2265 marked the first commercial flight to arrive at Port Vila after its reopening. The following flight, FJ2264, was also significant as it served as the first commercial departure, transporting returning Fiji nationals and other passengers affected by the recent closure of Port Vila due to an earthquake on December 17.
Fiji Airways has announced that normal operations, including flights FJ263/262, will resume this afternoon, adhering to the airport’s current operating hours from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Additional services are scheduled to take place tomorrow.
This positive development signals not only a return to normalcy for travel between Fiji and Vanuatu but also highlights the dedication of Fiji Airways to support humanitarian efforts and facilitate the safe return of residents and aid workers. As services are reinstated, hope persists for the communities affected, reflecting resilience and cooperation in overcoming recent challenges.
