Fiji Airways is striving to achieve world-class recognition in the aviation sector, as articulated by the airline’s Chief Marketing Officer, Akuila Batiweti. The airline has been invited to compete for the prestigious APEX World Class rating, a competition that includes only 15 airlines, with a mere 10 achieving the distinction globally.
Mr. Batiweti emphasized the significance of this invitation, stating, “It’s the top 10 airlines in the world. And you have to be invited to go after it.” The airline, currently operating a fleet of just 24 aircraft, stands out as the smallest carrier among major competitors such as Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Emirates.
As part of its quest for this elite status, Fiji Airways has embarked on a transformative journey over the past six months aimed at meeting world-class standards. Regardless of the outcome, Mr. Batiweti believes that this endeavor has already instigated a substantial positive change within the company. “Whatever happens, whether we get it or not, we believe that we’ve changed the business forever and you will see the transformation in our business,” he remarked.
The results of the APEX World Class Award, which evaluates airlines based on safety, service, well-being, and overall passenger experience, will be unveiled next week in Long Beach, California. This significant event not only marks a pivotal moment for Fiji Airways but also underscores its ambitious path toward excellence.
The journey of Fiji Airways resonates with the airline’s recent accolades, including its recognition as a Five Star Major Airline, marking its commitment to quality and innovation. It’s worth noting that the airline has continuously improved its service offerings, showcasing its resilience and dedication despite operating as the region’s smallest airline. Achievements like these shine a bright light on Fiji’s status as a travel destination and exemplify how smaller carriers can compete on a global scale.
Fiji Airways’ efforts reflect a broader goal to enhance its customer service and operational excellence while embodying the warmth of Fijian hospitality. As the airline navigates this path, the ongoing transformation and commitment to high standards can serve as inspiration for other smaller airlines looking to make their mark in the global airline industry.
