Fiji Airways successfully operated its first commercial flight to Port Vila today, bringing 98 passengers, including members of a Fiji Government relief team, Vanuatu nationals, residents, and aid workers, following the earthquake that struck on December 17. The flight, designated FJ2265 and utilizing a Boeing 737 Max8F, landed at 1:00 PM, marking a significant milestone as the first commercial service since the airport’s reopening.
“We take pride in being the first commercial airline to return to Port Vila,” stated Fiji Airways. The return flight, FJ2264, also represented a pivotal moment, as it carried back Fiji nationals and residents affected by the airport’s closure due to the earthquake.
With the resumption of its regular schedule, flight FJ263/262 took off this afternoon at 1:00 PM and is set to return at 4:00 PM.
