Fiji Airways is set to enhance travel convenience for Australians with its newly launched direct flight service connecting Nadi, Fiji, to Cairns, Australia. This year-round route, which commenced on April 10, 2025, will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, significantly reducing flight times for travelers heading to the United States.
During the inaugural flight, Fiji Airways’ CEO, Andre Viljoen, highlighted that this new service not only represents a milestone for travelers in Tropical North Queensland but also enhances global connectivity. He stated, “We’re thrilled to provide faster one-stop connections to North America, saving three hours and skipping extra stopovers for Australians in the region.” Passengers can now expect travel times to major U.S. cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco to be cut to around 16 hours, a considerable improvement over previous options that involved additional domestic segments.
This route positions Cairns Airport as a pivotal hub for international travel, with Cairns Airport CEO Richard Barker noting the potential for increased tourism and economic growth in the region. The connection opens up new holiday possibilities for locals and enhances the travel experience for those visiting family and friends abroad. Additionally, the flight schedule is strategically aligned with Fiji Airways’ existing flights to Dallas/Fort Worth, making it an efficient option for travelers heading to North America.
With flights commencing at 12:25 PM from Cairns and arriving at Nadi International Airport at 6:35 PM, the new service operates using the fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX 8, which is part of Fiji Airways’ broader strategy to minimize environmental impact while expanding its network. This new route marks the airline’s 27th international service and sixth destination in Australia, complementing existing flights to major cities including Sydney and Melbourne.
Ticket sales have begun, with introductory fares starting from FJD $799 for the Lite option and FJD $899 for the Value fare, providing an accessible and cost-effective choice for travelers seeking to explore Fiji and beyond. As international travels continue to recover, this new service symbolizes a hopeful expansion of travel opportunities, connecting communities and fostering stronger ties between Fiji and Australia.
Overall, the launch of the Nadi-Cairns route is a promising development that not only enhances connectivity but also supports the growth of tourism and economic exchanges between the regions involved, bringing the world closer together one flight at a time.
