Fiji Airways has unveiled plans to launch a new direct flight service connecting Nadi, Fiji, with Cairns, Australia, starting on April 10, 2025. The airline will operate this route three times a week, specifically on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
According to the airline’s media release, the Nadi-Cairns flights will also facilitate smoother connections for Cairns passengers traveling to destinations like Dallas/Fort Worth, thereby offering an expedited travel option to North America and beyond. This move is considered a strategic initiative by Fiji Airways, aimed at enhancing connectivity for its guests with Northern Australia, a region celebrated for its tourism and economic significance.
The new route is now available for booking, with introductory fares starting at FJD$ 799 Lite* and FJD$ 899 Value* for a round trip from Nadi to Cairns. André Viljoen, the Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, emphasized that this new service adds to the airline’s network expansion efforts, providing more choice and improved connections for travelers.
Richard Barker, CEO of Cairns Airport, described the announcement as a significant development for the local region. He noted that this new route not only positions the South Pacific as an appealing holiday destination for locals but also enhances Fiji Airways’ network, offering quicker, one-stop connectivity to North America through its hub in Nadi. Notable destinations such as Los Angeles and San Francisco will now be reachable within 16 hours, effectively reducing travel time by nearly three hours compared to other Australian domestic ports.
This initiative by Fiji Airways is a promising step towards improving travel options and bolstering tourism in both regions, facilitating greater connections and easier access to diverse destinations across the globe.
In summary, the new Nadi-Cairns flights represent a strategic enhancement for Fiji Airways, promising increased connectivity and potential growth in tourism for both Fiji and Northern Australia.
