Fiji Airways has implemented temporary measures to ensure the continuity of its operations amidst equipment challenges. According to local civil aviation authorities, these adjustments can be deemed acceptable as long as they align with the airline’s established procedures.

Theresa O’Boyle-Levestam, the chief executive of the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji, stressed the importance of these measures for maintaining the safety and airworthiness of the involved aircraft. These developments came after the airline opted to utilize a B737 Max for the morning flights between Nadi and Nausori, replacing two ATR72 planes.

Insider reports suggest that one ATR72 aircraft is currently grounded for repairs after parts were reportedly taken from an ATR42, which has also been rendered inoperable. Another ATR72 is still servicing flights to Vavau, Tonga, driven by the surge of passengers eager for whale watching experiences.

Fiji Airways is preparing to acquire two new ATR72 aircraft to replace the ATR42 in its fleet. The Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that they are working closely with the airline to ensure these new arrivals comply with all regulatory standards and are efficiently registered.

O’Boyle-Levestam reiterated that while the CAAF does not partake in day-to-day operational decisions, it retains oversight of maintenance programs through regular inspections to guarantee adherence to international safety standards. She commended Fiji Airways for its resourcefulness in maintaining service routes and addressing passenger demand despite the existing fleet limitations.

This situation not only highlights Fiji Airways’ commitment to operational excellence and safety but also demonstrates their proactive approach to fleet management. As they prepare for new aircraft arrivals, passengers can look forward to continued service quality and options.

In summary, Fiji Airways is navigating through operational challenges with a focus on safety, adaptability, and customer satisfaction. The expected addition of new ATR72 aircraft promises to further strengthen their fleet capabilities and enhance travel experiences.
