Fiji Airways is facing ongoing disruptions to its evening and overnight flight schedules due to issues with runway lighting at Nadi International Airport, which occurred yesterday evening. The airline is actively working to recover operations after several flights experienced delays, diversions, or cancellations.
Following the restoration of runway lighting and the reopening of the airport, Fiji Airways reported that some aircraft and flight crews are still positioned at diversion airports. To address this, the airline is mobilizing teams to reposition both aircraft and crew members to swiftly resume scheduled services while ensuring safety remains a top priority.
Significant delays have impacted specific flights, including flight FJ 810 from Nadi to Los Angeles, which was delayed by 8 hours and 20 minutes, now departing at 6:00 AM this morning. Similarly, flight FJ 393 from Nadi to Hong Kong faced a delay of approximately 6 hours and 55 minutes, with a revised departure of 6:25 AM.
Fiji Airways is in direct communication with all passengers affected by these changes to confirm new travel arrangements. The airline expressed sincere apologies for the inconvenience and emphasized the safety of both passengers and crew as its highest priority.
Moreover, Fiji Airports confirmed that as a precautionary safety measure, several inbound flights, including Fiji Airways flights FJ 950, FJ 960, and FJ 274, were diverted to Nausori International Airport, while flight FJ 910 was redirected to Faleolo International Airport in Samoa. Affected departing flights included FJ 413, which left later than planned at 8:45 PM, and flight FJ 915, which was cancelled due to curfews at Sydney Airport.
The situation highlights the challenges airlines face during unforeseen operational disruptions and the importance of safety in aviation. Fiji Airways’ proactive response to realign its flights and support impacted passengers reflects a commitment to service even in difficult circumstances.
