Fiji Airways Elevates Pilot Training with New High-Tech Simulators

Fiji Airways has introduced cutting-edge simulators at the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy. The new additions feature the CAE 7000XR full flight simulator for Airbus A350 and ATR-72 aircraft, alongside two CAE 500XR Fixed Training Devices (FTD) designed for Airbus A330 and Boeing 737-Max 8.

Certified by EASA and CAAF, these simulators significantly enhance the Academy’s ability to deliver top-tier training for pilots and engineers. Andre Viljoen, the chief executive officer and managing director of Fiji Airways, expressed that the inclusion of new full flight simulators for these aircraft marks a major advancement for the Academy.

He stated, “It emphasizes our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of training and safety for our pilots and engineers while reinforcing our goal to establish Fiji as a regional hub of aviation excellence.” By incorporating advanced training technology in Fiji, the airline ensures that its pilots and engineers are equipped with essential tools to thrive in their professions.

Inaugurated in December 2019, the Academy has focused on fostering local talent and eliminating the necessity for overseas training. The overall investment in the Academy, including the latest simulators, is approximately $160 million. This expansion enables the Academy to meet not only the training demands of Fiji Airways but also to accommodate third-party airlines, thereby creating new revenue opportunities.
