Fiji Airways has recently introduced advanced simulators at the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy. Among the new additions are the CAE 7000XR full flight simulator designed for the Airbus A350 and ATR-72 aircraft, alongside two CAE 500XR Fixed Training Devices (FTD) for the Airbus A330 and Boeing 737-Max 8.
These simulators have received certification from EASA and CAAF, significantly enhancing the Academy’s ability to deliver high-quality training for pilots and engineers.
Fiji Airways’ CEO and Managing Director, Andre Viljoen, stated, “The introduction of these new full flight simulators for the A350 and ATR aircraft represents a major advancement for the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy. It emphasizes our commitment to maintaining the highest training and safety standards for our pilots and engineers, reinforcing our goal of making Fiji a regional hub for aviation excellence. Providing advanced training technology directly in Fiji ensures our pilots and engineers have the necessary tools to thrive in their careers.”
Since its inception in December 2019, the Academy has focused on local talent development while decreasing the reliance on international training programs. The total investment in the Academy, including the new simulators, is approximately $160 million. This expansion not only meets the training requirements of Fiji Airways but also accommodates external airlines, creating new revenue opportunities.
