Andre Viljoen, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fiji Airways, has announced his resignation, effective October 2025. After ten years leading the airline, he will take up the role of CEO at Air Mauritius, marking his return home.
Mr. Nalin Patel, Chairman of Fiji Airways, expressed profound gratitude for Viljoen’s impactful leadership during his tenure. Patel also noted that Viljoen will continue to serve on the Board of Directors post-transition, ensuring continuity in leadership.
“There’s no conflict of interest as Fiji Airways and Air Mauritius operate in different markets. Furthermore, the use of similar aircraft types, like the Airbus A350 and ATR, enhances the possibility for collaboration in both leadership and operational development,” Patel said.
To find a suitable successor, Fiji Airways will conduct an extensive search, advertising the position both internally and across national and international platforms. This ensures that all qualified candidates who meet specific criteria will be taken into consideration.
Reflecting on Viljoen’s previous achievements, it’s noteworthy that under his guidance, Fiji Airways successfully navigated challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, emerging as one of the top 20 airlines in the world by revenue, surpassing the billion-dollar mark. His leadership has significantly contributed to the airline’s strong standing in the competitive aviation landscape.
As Fiji Airways prepares for this transition, it remains dedicated to fostering innovation and maintaining its status as a vital player in the tourism industry, which is crucial for Fiji’s economy. The focus on collaborative efforts and the commitment to a thorough search for new leadership bode well for the future of the airline and the broader industry it supports.
