Fiji Airways has officially resumed commercial passenger flights to Port Vila, Vanuatu, following the airport’s reopening. The supplementary flight, designated FJ2265, took off from Nadi at 11:59 AM and landed in Port Vila at 1:04 PM, just four minutes after the airport was cleared for commercial operations.
On board the flight were 98 passengers, including an advance team from the Fiji Government, returning Vanuatu nationals and residents, aid workers, and various assistance goods. The aircraft also had personnel from Fiji Airways who prepared the plane for its return trip.
FJ2265 marked the first commercial flight to arrive in Port Vila since its reopening, while the return flight, FJ2264, was the first to depart, accommodating returning Fiji nationals and other guests impacted by the airport’s temporary closure due to the earthquake on December 17.
The airline plans to resume its regular schedule with flights FJ263/262 later today during the airport’s operational hours of 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Additionally, further flight services are expected to continue tomorrow, enhancing connectivity for travelers and supporting the recovery efforts in the region.
This development reflects a positive step towards restoring normalcy and accessibility for the people and economy of Vanuatu. As operations resume, it opens up opportunities for aid, commerce, and tourism, contributing to the revitalization of the city after the recent challenges.
