Fiji Airways reported a revenue of $99 million in cargo for 2023, highlighting that its largest agricultural airfreight export was turmeric to North America, with shipments reaching 100 tonnes per week, according to the company’s 2023 annual report presented in Parliament on Friday.
However, cargo revenue experienced a significant decline of 24 percent due to reduced yields, a consequence of increased competition as airlines resumed international operations following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The annual report indicated that Fiji Airways transported over 29,000 tonnes of cargo to and from Fiji. The airline emphasized the importance of its cargo services in supporting the national economy.
Fiji Airways facilitates shipments from various regions, including Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North America, and the Pacific Islands. The airline stated that its cargo services play a crucial role in fostering trade and commerce, aiding local businesses, and contributing to the economic growth of Fiji.
