Fiji Airways Aviation Academy is achieving annual cost savings of $22.7 million. One of its key strengths is its capability to provide all required training internally, which includes initial and recurrent type ratings, remedial training, and license conversions.
Minister for Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka disclosed this information in Parliament when asked about plans to enhance the academy’s potential. He noted that by conducting training in-house, Fiji Airways has eliminated the need to hire external providers, thereby avoiding significant fees typically incurred at international training centers.
Gavoka explained that previously, pilots had to travel abroad for training, with locations such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Honolulu, Brisbane, Seattle, and Bangkok being common. This led to additional costs for accommodation and living expenses.
With the academy now operational, these expenses have been fully removed, allowing pilots to complete all their training in Fiji and significantly lowering the financial impact associated with international travel.
