Fiji Airports has entered into an $8.6 million contract with Pacific Building Solutions Group for the construction of the Labasa Terminal.
The Pacific Building Solutions Group was selected following a comprehensive tender process. This project comes after an earlier investment of $10 million this year for pavement improvements at five outer airports, including Labasa.
The Labasa Terminal development involves the construction of a temporary terminal, the demolition of the existing terminal, and the establishment of a new permanent terminal that will feature separate areas for arrivals and departures.
Construction of the temporary terminal is set to commence in the first week of October and is expected to be completed by January 2025. The main terminal construction will begin in January 2025 and is projected to finish by June 2026.
Fiji Airports is dedicated to minimizing disruptions and ensuring that stakeholders are kept informed. “We have formally communicated with Fiji Link, Northern Air, Police, taxi operators, and the shop operator at Labasa Airport about the project and its timelines,” stated Company Chief Executive Mesake Nawari.
This project aims to improve the travel experience for domestic passengers and accommodate increasing passenger traffic.
