Fiji Airports has announced an ambitious roadmap for the next decade, outlining 18 key projects aimed at enhancing the nation’s aviation infrastructure. In a recent statement, the company revealed that it has engaged COX Architecture Pty Ltd as a consultant to develop a comprehensive landside master plan for both Nadi and Nausori Airports.
This esteemed Australian architectural firm was selected after a competitive tender process and boasts a strong portfolio, having previously executed infrastructure projects at notable airports including Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 3, New Delhi International Airport Terminal 3, and Sydney International Airport.
Fiji Airports CEO Mesake Nawari expressed enthusiasm about the master plan for Nadi and Nausori Airports, stating that it will present new diversification opportunities to boost the company’s non-aeronautical ventures alongside its core operations in air traffic and airport management. The consultant has been allotted 32 weeks to finalize the scope of work for this project.
The landside master plan is set to align with the Nadi Airport airside master plan, which will extend from 2024 to 2048. The initial phase of airside projects at Nadi Airport has already commenced, with significant upgrades on the horizon. Over the next ten years, plans include modernizing existing facilities, constructing new gates, and developing a state-of-the-art domestic terminal. Other enhancements will involve the extension of parking facilities, the addition of new aerobridges, and the enlargement of the departure lounge, among other improvements.
This development initiative represents a significant investment in Fiji’s airport infrastructure, aiming to bolster the travel experience for both residents and visitors while enhancing the operational capabilities of Nadi and Nausori Airports.
As Fiji Airports embarks on this transformative journey, the proposed upgrades not only promise to elevate service standards but also stimulate economic growth through increased tourism and trade opportunities. This commitment to modernization reflects a hopeful trajectory for the aviation sector in Fiji, fostering a positive outlook for the country’s future connectivity and development.
