A team of aviation security experts from Airports Council International (ACI) has arrived in Nadi to carry out the first comprehensive review of airport security governance and processes at Fiji Airports. According to Fiji Airports CEO Mesake Nawari, this review is essential given the increasing volume of air travel following the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Nawari emphasized the significance of being selected for this critical evaluation, highlighting Fiji’s vital role in aviation within the Blue Pacific region. The ACI team is tasked with reviewing current security practices, identifying any security vulnerabilities, and providing recommendations based on established standards, including Annex 17 Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), as well as the Aviation Security Manual.

The outcomes of this review are anticipated to provide valuable insights for enhancing airport security protocols and ensuring the safety of passengers. Areas of focus for the evaluation include security policies, surveillance measures, risk assessments, response strategies for incidents, and the layout of terminal buildings and runways.

The ACI APEX (Airport Excellence) team consists of five international security experts from South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti, who will engage in a four-day intensive review at Nadi International Airport.

Fiji Airports expressed gratitude for the opportunity to undergo this assessment, stating that the recommendations derived from the review will inform initiatives aligned with their strategic planning for 2025 to 2034, specifically focusing on safety, security, and compliance. This effort aligns with Fiji Airports’ vision of becoming a world-class aviation hub in the Blue Pacific region.

Summary: ACI experts are conducting a significant review of Fiji Airports’ security governance in response to increased air travel post-COVID-19. This process aims to identify best practices and enhance security measures, underscoring Fiji’s commitment to aviation safety and its aspirations to be a top aviation hub in the Pacific.

This initiative reflects a proactive approach to strengthening aviation security and ensuring passenger safety, ultimately benefiting travelers and the broader aviation community.
