Fiji Airports Soars with $20 Million in Government Profit Share

Fiji Airports contributes an average of $20 million annually in profit sharing to the Government, according to the 2021 Annual Report presented to Parliament by Social Affairs Committee chairperson Iliesa Vanawalu. This financial performance has been part of the company’s continued positive growth since the onset of the global pandemic.

Vanawalu highlighted that the Nadi Airport master plan aims to enhance services in collaboration with other aviation and tourism-focused operators, which is expected to drive further growth. He remarked, “All of these developments bode well for an institution that contributes significantly to the State.”

He noted that Fiji Airports has implemented stringent COVID-19 protocols, which have been continually monitored throughout the pandemic. The company is also focused on energy-saving initiatives that enhance its sustainability efforts. Vanawalu mentioned, “Fiji Airports has undertaken an energy conservation exercise that has substantially reduced monthly bills.”

Additionally, he indicated that Fiji Airways is now capable of operating its 737 aircraft from Nausori Airport, improving service capabilities. One of the key aspects of their future plans includes a green initiative aimed at achieving a higher level of accreditation by 2024.

Vanawalu stressed the importance of upgrading facilities at Fiji Airports Limited, acknowledging the company’s commitment to improving services and modernizing its 15 airport facilities nationwide. He stated, “The airport is revisiting its plans for arrivals, and with projected visitor numbers reaching a million, we must ensure our airport ranks among the best in the region, if not the Southern hemisphere.”
