Fiji Airports Signs Deal for Major Solar Project

Fiji Airports has entered into a contract with ITP Renewables Australia for the initial phase of the solar farm project at Nadi International Airport as of Friday, August 2.

Fiji Airports CEO, Mesake Nawari, stated that the agreement marks a significant advancement for the solar farm initiative. The contract includes consultancy services enabling ITP to begin the solar farm design for Nadi International Airport. Nawari noted that significant funds are spent on energy, and the goal is for Fiji Airports to lead the aviation sector in Fiji and the region.

He also mentioned that this contract represents the first step towards achieving Fiji Airports’ vision of generating 3.5 megawatts of clean energy within the airport’s premises through a solar farm.

Nawari highlighted that this development aligns with the Airports Council International Green Airport initiative and elevates Fiji Airports to the same level as some of the top international airports. He expressed that this milestone is also a valuable experience to share with neighboring airports in the Blue Pacific aiming for sustainability.

The commencement of the solar farm design is part of Fiji Airports’ dedication to a net-zero target by 2050 and environmental sustainability.

“We can now affirm that the solar farm is no longer just a dream—it is becoming a reality. Our commitment to achieving a net-zero carbon footprint places us at the forefront of global green airport initiatives. We are excited to collaborate with ITP Renewables Australia, a leader in renewable energy consulting services throughout Australia and Oceania, covering engineering, strategy and compliance, and energy sector analytics in the aviation industry,” Nawari said.
