Fiji Airports has entered into a partnership with COX Architecture Pty Ltd to create a comprehensive landslide master plan for both Nadi and Nausori Airports. The decision to select the Australian architectural firm followed a meticulous tender process, given their proven track record working on similar international projects, including the recently developed Western Sydney International Airport.

Mesake Nawari, the chief executive of Fiji Airports, highlighted COX’s experience with significant infrastructure developments, noting their successful projects at prominent airports like Singapore’s Changi Terminal 3 and New Delhi’s International Airport Terminal 3. The consulting firm has been allocated a timeline of 32 weeks to complete the master plan.

Nawari expressed enthusiasm for the plans concerning Nadi and Nausori Airports, emphasizing that the master plan would create diversification opportunities within the non-aeronautical sectors of their business, alongside their traditional focus on Air Traffic and Airport Management.

This initiative comes on the heels of the updated Airside master plan being presented to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. The newly developed landside master plan will align with the airside plan covering 2024 to 2048, which was endorsed by the Prime Minister and the Minister for Public Enterprises in October.

Nawari remarked on the vital role of Fiji Airports in enhancing the nation’s aviation leadership and tourism appeal, noting its global influence as a connector of markets and cultures. With an ongoing commitment to excellence, the airport aims to transform perceptions of air travel and business opportunities.

In the coming decade, Fiji Airports is set to become increasingly proactive with 18 projects in the pipeline, most of which are early works projects. Upgrading existing facilities, constructing new gates, developing a state-of-the-art domestic terminal, and expanding parking lots and aerobridges are just a few of the planned enhancements. The airport is poised for significant growth and modernization, promising an exciting future for air travel in Fiji.

This development embodies a positive forward momentum for Fiji’s aviation sector, exemplifying the nation’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the travel experience. The upcoming projects not only signify growth but also foster opportunities for economic development and increased tourism.
