Fiji Airports is preparing for an ambitious decade, planning to implement 18 significant projects over the next ten years, according to a recent statement from the company. To guide these developments, Fiji Airports has engaged COX Architecture Pty Ltd, an Australian architectural firm, to create a landside master plan for both Nadi and Nausori Airports.
COX Architecture was chosen after a rigorous tender process and boasts extensive experience with major infrastructure projects, including enhancements at renowned airports such as Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 3, New Delhi International Airport Terminal 3, and Sydney International Airport.
Mesake Nawari, the CEO of Fiji Airports, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming master plan, highlighting its potential to diversify non-aeronautical business operations while complementing core activities like Air Traffic and Airport Management. The landside master plan will align with the Nadi Airport airside master plan set for the 2024–2048 period.
Initial airside projects at Nadi Airport have already begun, and over the next ten years, travelers can expect notable upgrades. These will comprise enhancements to existing facilities and infrastructure, the construction of new gates, a modern domestic terminal, and expanded parking areas. Additionally, new aerobridges will replace current passenger boarding tunnels, alongside extensions to the departure lounge, off-gate aprons, and domestic apron.
This ambitious plan not only promises to improve the operational capabilities of Fiji’s airports but also aims to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers, making it an exciting time for both Fiji Airports and the greater Fijian economy.
Such infrastructure advancements not only reflect a commitment to modernization and growth but also pave the way for increased tourism and connectivity, portraying a positive outlook for Fiji’s aviation sector.
