Fiji Airports Names New Leaders to Drive Blue Pacific Aviation

Nadi, Fiji – Fiji Airports has reinforced its dedication to operational excellence and safety with recent key appointments throughout its airport network. William Tamata has been named the new Manager of Electrical & Mechanical Services, while Alisi Bulamaibau has advanced to the position of Aerodrome Maintenance Engineer.

Mr. Tamata comes to this role with over 15 years of experience in electrical engineering, having worked across Fiji, the United Kingdom, and Europe. His background includes managing vital airfield electrical systems at some of the world’s busiest airports, such as Heathrow, Gatwick, and those within the Manchester Airport Group. His return to Fiji Airports has personal significance; he grew up in the company’s compound and is following in the footsteps of his father, Mr. Epeli Tamata, who served for many years as a technician and Station Officer in the Electrical Department at Nausori Airport. Mr. Tamata had previously worked at Fiji Airports from 2009 to 2017, where he received mentorship from Mr. Waqa Taukei, the Senior Manager of Projects (Renewable Energy).

Fiji Airports Chief Executive Officer Mesake Nawari stated that Tamata’s appointment exemplifies the company’s strategic goal of nurturing leaders who merge international expertise with an understanding of Fiji’s aviation context. “William’s story is one of legacy, leadership, and loyalty,” Nawari commented. Mr. Tamata holds a Bachelor of Engineering Technology from the University of the South Pacific and a Master of Engineering from the University of Technology Sydney. He is also a proud alumnus of the ICAO-ROK Fellowship in Airport Lighting and Management, granted by the Korea Airports Corporation.

Alisi Bulamaibau, now serving as Aerodrome Maintenance Engineer, leads a team dedicated to the inspection, maintenance, repair, and certification of critical aerodrome infrastructure at Nadi International Airport. Her work ensures compliance with standards set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Originally from Vanuaso Village in Gau, Bulamaibau holds a qualification in Civil Engineering and boasts nearly a decade of experience in the industry. She described her promotion not just as a career milestone but as the fulfillment of a childhood dream to work in engineering. “Engineering may be a male-dominated field, but I see being a woman in this space as a strength,” she remarked. “It drives diversity of thought and encourages other young women to follow the same path.”

These new leadership appointments align with Fiji Airports’ strategic goal of becoming a world-class aviation hub in the Blue Pacific, highlighting the importance of strong leadership and a skilled, empowered local workforce. The positive developments signify not only a commitment to safety and operational excellence but also an investment in the future of aviation in Fiji.
