Fiji Airports has entered into an $8.6 million agreement with Pacific Building Solutions Group to undertake construction at the Labasa Terminal. The selection of Pacific Building Solutions Group followed a comprehensive tender process.
This initiative comes on the heels of a $10 million investment made earlier this year aimed at enhancing pavement conditions at five outer airports, one of which is Labasa.
The Labasa Terminal development includes the construction of a temporary terminal, the demolition of the existing terminal, and the establishment of a new permanent terminal featuring distinct arrivals and departure areas.
Work on the temporary terminal is set to commence in the first week of October, with completion expected by January 2025. Subsequently, the construction of the main terminal will begin in January 2025 and is anticipated to finish by June 2026.
Fiji Airports is dedicated to minimizing disruptions throughout the process and ensuring stakeholders are kept up to date. Mesake Nawari, the Chief Executive of the company, stated, “We have formally informed Fiji Link, Northern Air, the Police, taxi operators, and the shop operator at Labasa Airport about the project and its timelines.”
This project aims to improve the travel experience for domestic passengers while accommodating the increasing passenger traffic.
