Fiji Airports Initiates Solar Farm Project with Australian Partner.

Fiji Airports has entered into a contract with ITP Renewables Australia for the first phase of the solar farm project at Nadi International Airport, signed on Friday, August 2.

Fiji Airports Chief Executive Officer, Mesake Nawari, highlighted that the contract signing marks significant progress for the solar farm project. The consultancy services covered by the contract will enable ITP to commence the design of the Solar Farm for Nadi International Airport. Nawari emphasized the importance of reducing energy costs and leading the aviation sector in Fiji and the region.

Nawari noted that this is the initial step towards achieving Fiji Airports’ goal of generating 3.5 megawatts of clean energy within the airport compound through the solar farm. This move aligns with the Airport Council International Green Airport initiative, aiming for another level of global accreditation.

“This project will place us on par with some of the leading international airports, signifying a major achievement for Fiji Airports. It also serves as a valuable learning experience that we can share with neighboring airports in the Blue Pacific region as they pursue sustainability,” he said.

The solar farm design aligns with Fiji Airports’ commitment to a net-zero target by 2050 and environmental sustainability. Nawari added, “This project transitions the solar farm from a mere dream to reality. Our pledge towards achieving a net-zero carbon footprint positions us as a pioneer in the global green airport zero carbon emissions space. We are thrilled to collaborate with ITP Renewables Australia on this project, leveraging their expertise in renewable energy consulting services in Australia and Oceania, including engineering, strategy, compliance, and energy sector analytics within the aviation industry.”
