Fiji Airports has entered into an $8.6 million contract with Pacific Building Solutions Group for the development of the Labasa Terminal. The selection of Pacific Building Solutions Group came after a comprehensive tender process.
This new project follows an earlier investment of $10 million made this year for upgrades to the pavements at five outer airports, including Labasa. The Labasa Terminal initiative involves the construction of a temporary terminal, the demolition of the current terminal, and the establishment of a new permanent terminal featuring distinct areas for arrivals and departures.
Construction of the temporary terminal is set to commence in the first week of October and is expected to be completed by January 2025. The main terminal construction will kick off in January 2025 and is anticipated to be finished by June 2026.
Fiji Airports is dedicated to minimizing disruptions and ensuring that stakeholders are kept informed throughout the project. Chief Executive Mesake Nawari stated that the company has officially communicated with Fiji Link, Northern Air, Police, taxi operators, and the shop operator at Labasa Airport regarding the project and its timelines.
This development aims to improve the travel experience for domestic passengers and address the increasing passenger traffic.
