Fiji Airports has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) aimed at enhancing service delivery at Nadi International Airport, which serves as Fiji’s primary aviation gateway. This initiative focuses on improving the experience of students and graduates traveling under scholarship obligations.
As part of the agreement, travel clearance notifications will be displayed on digital screens located in the Departure Check-In area and at the entrance to the security clearance zone. This real-time information will assist travelers in ensuring that they have obtained the necessary clearances before boarding their flights.
Additionally, two self-service guarantor clearance kiosks will be installed just outside the international arrivals area. These kiosks are designed to cater specifically to Fijians returning from overseas, particularly those who are bonded graduates or sponsored students. The kiosks will enable these individuals to swiftly delist their travel guarantors without the hassle of visiting an office or waiting in long lines.
TSLS Chief Executive Dr. Hasmukh Lal highlighted the importance of creating a seamless process for accessing travel and guarantor clearance, emphasizing that automation has significantly improved service delivery. He noted that immigration personnel can now process approvals electronically, which enhances overall efficiency.
This collaboration between Fiji Airports and TSLS reflects ongoing efforts to modernize student services, making it easier for scholarship recipients to comply with necessary protocols. Previous challenges have seen an average of 150 students being offloaded from flights each month due to travel clearance issues, a statistic that underscores the necessity for streamlined processes and heightened awareness among students.
In light of these developments, it is hopeful that the integration of digital notifications and self-service kiosks will lead to a smoother travel experience for students. This initiative not only aims to reduce confusion and delays but also demonstrates a commitment by the Fijian government to support students in navigating their educational and travel responsibilities more effectively.
