A team of aviation security experts from Airports Council International (ACI) has arrived in Nadi to carry out Fiji Airports’ first-ever comprehensive review of its airport security governance, systems, and procedures. Fiji Airports CEO Mesake Nawari highlighted the importance of this evaluation due to the increasing demand for air travel in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Nawari expressed gratitude for being selected for this crucial review, emphasizing the significant role Fiji Airports plays in aviation both in Fiji and across the broader Blue Pacific region. During the assessment, the APEX review team will evaluate current security measures, identify potential vulnerabilities, and propose improvements in line with Annex 17 Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and other established industry protocols.
The findings from this evaluation will facilitate enhancements in airport operations, ultimately prioritizing the safety of passengers. It will also guide Fiji Airports in identifying areas for improvement that align with international best practices.
The review will examine various aspects, including security policies, surveillance protocols, risk assessments, incident response procedures, and the layout of terminal buildings and runways. A dedicated team composed of five international aviation security professionals from regions such as South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti will conduct the four-day ACI APEX (Airport Excellence) review at Nadi International Airport.
According to a statement from Fiji Airports, the ACI advocates for the interests of airports globally to enhance aviation security capabilities. This initiative aligns with Fiji Airports’ strategic goal for the years 2025 to 2034 focusing on Safety, Security & Compliance, as the organization aims to establish itself as the premier aviation hub of the Blue Pacific.
This review showcases Fiji’s commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and security in its aviation sector, ensuring that it can meet the growing demands of international travel with confidence and reliability.
In conclusion, such initiatives not only elevate operational standards but also foster trust and safety in the travel experience, benefiting both passengers and stakeholders in the aviation industry.
